![]() Committing to these higher values in front of your fellow brothers for the betterment of yourself, your chapter, the Greek community, and society as a whole is a very powerful experience. Commitment is difficult, especially for a college student, but there is no better commitment than one of scholarship, leadership, community involvement, and brotherhood. These values stem from our core values as a community. Everyone in Greek Life has taken an oath to live their life based on the values and principles of their chapters. Greek Life is a commitment to these higher ideals and core values. Many within our community have said that there is no better way to spend this time than in the fellowship of fraternity brothers striving to learn, contribute, and enjoy their time here at UMaine. We believe that the time you spend outside of the classroom can greatly contribute to what an undergraduate takes away from their experience in college. We have a diverse community that encompasses different interests and lifestyles and we are confident that there is a fraternity on campus that would be a great fit for anyone here at UMaine.įraternities at UMaine demonstrate our core values through our grades, our community service hours, philanthropy dollars raised, our on campus leadership positions, and the lifelong friendships made. Our Fraternal community is accomplished in all of these core values and defies the Greek stereotype that is perpetuated in modern society. Sigma women are dedicated to helping each other and their personal success is recognized in The AURORA and through various awards.Fraternity life here at the University of Maine seeks to encompass four core values academics, community service and philanthropy, leadership, and fellowship. In 2004, the National Headquarters moved from Chicago, Illinois to its current home in Cary, North Carolina. The programs, partnerships, and sponsorships represent Sigma Gamma Rho’s commitment to promoting the greater good in education, service, and leadership development. Sigma Gamma Rho’s commitment to service is expressed in its slogan, “Greater Service, Greater Progress.” The sorority has a proud history of providing positive and proactive community outreach nationally and internationally. The Rhoer Club Affiliates (teenage girls) and Philos Affiliates (friends of the sorority) also assist alumnae chapters with various service efforts and programs. The sorority has more than 500 chapters in the United States, Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Germany, South Korea, U.S. Sigma Gamma Rho has welcomed more than 100,000 collegiate and professional women from every profession. Since its inception, the dynamic women of Sigma Gamma Rho have built and sustained a well-known and well-respected reputation for leading positive change to help uplift the community through sisterhood, leadership, and service. The group became an incorporated national collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929, when a charter was granted to the Alpha chapter at Butler University. was organized on November 12, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana, by seven young educators: Mary Lou Allison Gardner Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian Irene White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Annette Dulin Redford, Bessie Mae Downey Rhoades Martin, and Cubena McClure.
